DIY: Floating the Salt River

Want to kayak/paddle the salt river?

Not sure the lengths of time needed for each stretch?

Look Below:

  • Water Users –> Pebble Beach: 30-40min
  • Water Users –> Usery Pass (Salt river tubing) Exit: 1.5-2hrs
  • Water Users –> Coons Bluff: 2.5-3hrs
  • Water Users –> Phon D Sutton: 2.75-3.5hrs
  • Water Users–> Granite Reef: 3.5hrs-4.5hrs
  • Pebble Beach –> Usery Pass (salt river tubing) exit: 1-2hrs
  • Pebble Beach –> Coons Bluff: 2-2.75hrs
  • Pebble Beach –> Phone D Sutton: 2.5-3.5hrs
  • Pebble Beach –>Granite Reef: 3.5-4hrs
Keep your eyes out for: Wild horses, turtles, river otters (yes! they are elusive though), an arrow of birds, fish, the occasional coyote, rabbits, wild humans

Shuttling: I recommend inviting someone else so you have two cars. Both cars meet at the spot that you will end at. Throw all your kayaks/boards/tubes into one car then drive up in one car to the starting spot. PSA: Make sure to bring your car keys!!! OR meet both cars at the starting point, unload all water craft, then pile into both cars and drive to end location, drop a car, then pile into car that will drive back to the start!

What to Bring

  • Swimsuit
  • Hat (ie. SAfishing.com)
  • Sunglasses
  • Sunscreen
  • At least 40oz of water (Thermoflask with ice work well)
  • Water Shoes
  • Dry bag or ziplock bag for non-waterproof items
  • Towel (leave in car)
  • Snacks (if you’re like me and get hungry quickly)
  • Long sleeve, quick dry shirt (for the longer stretches)

PLEASE DO NOT LITTER. Our poor river is COATED with trash.

GREAT KARMA is coming to you if you help pick up trash along the river and throw it away at one of the MANY dumpsters when exiting the river.
